Methodology: Crypto Cards

Here we explain how the card comparison shows saveback, levels and availability - and what we leave out. There is no overall editorial score and no test winner. You filter and sort yourself.

On this page
01

No ranking

We do not award grades, points or awards. Cards start in a neutral order — this is not a recommendation or a “best card” judgment. Saveback, FX, cap and card costs are at the bottom of the table, directly above the manufacturer links.

02

Editorially checked, not automatically imported

The matrix is an editorial stand (access 14.08.2026), not a live import from a shop feed. Product pages describe a provider's card program — one page for all levels — and not individual shop items as in exchange fee scenarios.

03

Missing information

If a documented number or statement is missing, the cell remains empty (—). We do not invent 0% or 5% values. We internally mark contradictory sources as unclear and do not show them as established facts.

04

Cashback/Saveback

Saveback is the phrase in this column — not cashback and saveback mixed, and not “until 5%”. Purchasable tiers are available as separate columns (e.g. Crypto.com Level Up, Plutus Subscriptions, Plasma, MetaMask Virtual/Metal, Coinbase Debit vs One Card, Wirex One Base... Bespoke).

Wirex One does not have a purchasable subscription; The level depends on the WPAY inventory and portfolio - this is included in the card costs, but does not count as the sorting price. Loyalty ladders with documented holds (Krak Rewards, OKX VIP, Wirex WPAY) are also in their own columns - otherwise 0% incorrectly looks like the card's rate. ether.fi shows four visual tiers (Core, Luxe, Pinnacle, VIP) and a product page for the entire cash program; the spend cap describes the ladder.

05

Sorting

Sort by Card costs only uses documented spending or subscription amounts (year = 12× month). EUR 0 or $ 0 only with officially free edition. “No Subscription” and token/portfolio holds are not a sorting price. At Plutus, the three columns distinguish between the monthly price and the spend cap (250 / 500 / 1 000), not the percentage. Unknown values are at the end.

Saveback is the rate for this column. FX is the provider markup or the target currency - not just the Visa network rate. CRO, XPL and WPAY in the table link to CoinMarketCap (price, not offer).

06

Entry level / mid-range / top models

The three presets reflect card costs and holding requirements, not a saveback ranking. Entry-level: no paid subscription or token/VIP lock. Mid-range: a subscription or moderate holding requirement. Premium: a high holding requirement or VIP 3+. Without a saved selection or products specified in the link, your comparison starts empty. Choose two card tiers, use a preset or open the full catalogue. The overview with six examples always remains visible.

07

Country coverage and filters

Germany, Austria and Switzerland means documented availability in DE, AT or CH (provider help counts). Filters do not have an “unknown” drawer: Apple/Google Pay is yes or no. A filter only appears if the values are mixed. Filters hide columns - they do not sort or evaluate.

08

Update

Program sources and conditions are maintained as needed. Internal quality warnings: features and sources 90 days, offers and affiliate links 30 days without re-fetching — same interval as hardware and exchanges, without scraping.
