How to Read Our Hardware Wallet Comparison
Read hardware-wallet comparisons correctly: distinguish features, sources, unknown values and filters, and assess offer links transparently.
In this guide

A hardware-wallet comparison helps assess devices using the same questions. What matters is the specific feature, its source and its suitability for your use. This guide separates those levels, explains unknown values and shows how to interpret filtered results. The aim is a reasoned shortlist rather than a decision based on the first table row.
Use the table as a starting point: read the linked sources before basing a purchase decision on a single feature.
Sorting
By product name, not by commission.
Index
Only the unfiltered category, not any filter URL.
Offer
Marked redirect if any.
Where you start
- Methodology — how we check features and separate affiliate from editorial representation.
- Comparison table — Characteristics and test status; Sorting by product name.
- Product details with sources, e.g. b. Ledger Nano X or Trezor Safe 3.
- You can find approved direct comparisons under the product and comparison pages (only activated pairs).
For those who prefer to answer questions: Find hardware wallet. The answers apply the same filters.
Features, context and personal requirements

- Product features with source and check status. If information is missing, it often says “will be checked” – that is a gap, not a hidden “no”.
- Editorial assessment according to our methodology - without points ranking and independent of affiliate commissions.
- Personal suitability via filters and profiles — optional. An empty result means: the combination is too close, not the market.
Filters and search engine index
Filters change the address line; For search engines, the unfiltered category remains relevant - this means there are no duplicate filter pages in the index. You can share a filtered view. Canonical and sitemap remain on the category.
Typical misinterpretation: “Top in the table = test winner.” Above is alphabetical or the current sorting, not an award.
Affiliate and offers
When an offer is linked, the purchase link opens a labeled redirect. Products without an affiliate program still remain in the table. Information is available on the product detail page.
What isn't here:
- No “test winner 2026” from invented laboratory tests.
- No own practical tests (“we tested for three weeks”).
- No investment recommendation.
Deepening: explanation, Buying criteria, Backup. Open source examples, among others BitBox02 Multi.
Interpret a feature value correctly
A cell is a claim with a source — or a gap. Read them in this order:
- What does it say? Yes, no, one procedure, one connection path, one asset set. Not the brand color next to it.
- Where from? The test status and the source information on the product detail page. Without a source, the cell is provisional.
- For which model? Ledger Nano X and another device of the same brand do not automatically share each cell. The column applies to the row, not the family.
“Under review” means: We cannot substantiate the information today. It doesn’t mean “the feature is missing” or “we save ourselves the research here because there is no partner link”. Products without an offer remain in the table.
Typical misreading: an empty price cell as “cheap” or a missing certification line as “unsafe”. Both are interpretation, not a cell. The Methodology separates characteristics, classification and your filters - it does not add them to one grade.
If two profiles are next to each other, this is a direct comparison of two lines, not a test. It does not replace the manufacturer's documentation or your own check of the backup method.
What a filtered list can tell you
Filters hide lines you don't need. Ranking would rank rows as if they were better. We do the first and avoid the second.
An “air-gapped” or “Bitcoin-only” filter is a requirement of the cell, not an award. A short hit list means: few devices meet the combination. An empty list means the combination is too close — not that the market is bad. The same mechanism is in the Decision tree: seven answers become chips, not a winner.
The address line changes with the filters. For search engines, the unfiltered category remains relevant. You can share a filtered view; Canonical and sitemap remain on Compare hardware wallets.
A row’s position follows the selected sort order. Alphabetical order says nothing about security or suitability for you. Review required features first, then open the sources for relevant models. Sorting by price answers a cost question; it does not create an overall technical assessment either.
Affiliate identification
If a purchase link is stored, it opens a marked redirect. The notice is on the product detail page and - where the article contains affiliates - in the disclosure above. Inclusion in the table and sorting by name follow the methodology, not the commission.
What that means in practice:
- A device without a partner program remains visible. Absence is not a judgment of quality.
- A device with a partner program does not move up.
- “Go to offer” is not an editorial “buy”. It is the deposited path, if available.
This page itself does not contain any purchase redirects. Deepening without ranking: explanation, Buying criteria, Backup. Open source example in details: BitBox02 Multi.
A fixed reading order helps: first check compatibility with your assets and software, then the backup method and transaction display. Next consider additional usability features and the complete purchase price. Record unanswered questions explicitly. Do not silently apply a manufacturer’s statement about another model or an older firmware version to your choice.

If a cell says “partial,” read the source before reinterpreting it as yes or no. “Partial” open source can mean firmware open and a portion closed. This is a difference in the cell, not an average between two notes. The same caution applies to secure element and certification information: manufacturer text with date, no laboratory assessment by us.
A filtered URL is intended for sharing, not archiving as “our recommendation.” Anyone who opens the link tomorrow will see the same chips — and the same gaps. If a source has changed, the retrieval date is on the product detail page, not in the filter line. Therefore, a split section replaces neither Methodology still take a look Ledger Nano X or Trezor Safe 3.
An offer link provides a purchase route, rather than technical evidence for a feature. Continue to check the documented details and the correct model. A missing link implies no recommendation. If a link is available, compare the destination offer’s region, included items and final price. Product presentation and actual shop terms serve different purposes.

Example: investigate an empty result list
You combine several requirements and get no matches. First check whether each requirement is essential. Then distinguish a documented negative from an unknown value. A filter may exclude devices whose support is not yet documented. The empty list describes the current data and your combination, rather than every product on the market.
Then relax one usability preference and check newly visible models against their sources. Keep the original requirement list. This makes it clear whether you changed a substantive exclusion or merely expanded the view. A saved filter URL does not replace that reasoning because the underlying data may change in later updates.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some lines missing numbers?
Because we can't prove it. “Under review” is more honest than an unsourced estimate.
Does a direct comparison count as a test?
No. A direct comparison places two profiles next to each other. It does not replace methodology or your own examination of the manufacturer's documentation.
Can I follow the sorting?
You can sort by name. You shouldn’t read this as a ranking — that’s exactly what we want to avoid.
