Overview

Editorial assessment

As a hardware wallet, the BitBox02 Multi is the multi-chain version of the Swiss BitBox02 series in the classic USB stick format. It shares the housing, secure element claim and open firmware with the Bitcoin-only version, but expands the chain list to include Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens. If you only want to hold Bitcoin, you will find the same hardware as pure BTC firmware; If you need an iPhone or Bluetooth, you can choose the newer one BitBox Nova in the higher price range - the Multi deliberately remains the wired desktop and Android path.

In everyday life, keys remain on the device, transactions are confirmed on the small display, backups run via microSD or BIP39. Anti-Klepto and the open client are documented focuses of Shift Crypto - no air gap, but a transparent software stack for users who want multi-asset without cellular radio. Solana and other exotic chains are missing from the features; the classification is BTC plus EVM core, not an open everything list.

In terms of price, the model in the catalog is around EUR 149 - well below the Nova and on par with the Bitcoin-only BitBox02. This is not a bargain promise, but the documented RRP classification: USB entry with Secure Element, without battery and without iOS. If you already own a BitBox02, you don't swap features via update, but rather choose the firmware line when purchasing.

Compared to Ledger Nano entries, the open firmware is more important; Compared to the Nova, there is no Bluetooth, but the price remains in the lower BitBox segment.

In Direct comparison BitBox02 Multi vs Coldcard Mk4 The form factor, connection and backup of the two hardware wallets are directly opposite - the basis for an objective comparison without an overall grade.

The features table summarizes specs and price range; Pros/Cons complement the editorial classification.
