Overview

Editorial assessment

Coldcard Q is the larger Coinkite hardware wallet, with a colour screen, AAA batteries and a keyboard body. It remains Bitcoin-only, with air-gapped QR, microSD and PSBT workflows. Mk4 is the smaller model; Q suits users wanting more input space and battery operation without multi-chain support. It is a different operating format within the family, not a new generation with additional chains.

Readable firmware code under a Commons Clause licence is documented. Features include BIP39, BIP85 and Seed XOR. Two secure elements are a manufacturer claim; formal CC certification is not listed. Bluetooth is absent, with separation remaining the core concept. USB and NFC are available, and desktop and mobile platforms are documented. QR Key Teleport between Q devices is a Coinkite-specific feature to read about in the manufacturer’s documentation before buying.

Batteries or cables may be separate according to the scope of delivery - this is stated in the cons points. Exact RRP values are in the purchase characteristics; the Q sits above the MK4 in the cold card segment and below many premium multi-chain devices from other brands. The keyboard and larger housing increase the pack size compared to the MK4, but do not automatically increase security.

Opposite Foundation Passport shares the Bitcoin-only air gap idea, the form factor and ecosystem differ; Compared to Jade Plus, the Q for Bitcoin remains without liquid, but with a keyboard and seed XOR model.

In Direct comparison Coldcard Mk4 vs Coldcard Q The form factor, connection and backup of the two hardware wallets are directly opposite - the basis for an objective comparison without an overall grade.

The features table summarizes specs and price range; Pros/Cons complement the editorial classification.

Frequently asked questions about Coldcard Q

Yes according to the features: Air gap is provided. According to the features, Bluetooth is not provided.

Does the Coldcard Q work with iPhone and NFC?

According to features: iOS yes and NFC yes. This does not automatically mean the same app experience as with BLE devices - read features and manufacturer information.
